His new identity, created by multidisciplinary design agency Savvy, neatly contrasts technical and professional precision with a sense of personal handcraft through a complementary combination of tall geometric letterforms and curved terminals—executed across a monogram and logotype, the utilisation of grids, guides and fine lines, uncoated material choices, a blind emboss and the modular sticker and hand stamped print finish of the collaterals. The colour palette offers a similar juxtaposition and duality through the clinical and efficient use of white space and the contemporary creativity (and single colour restraint) of a vivid red.

Taking its cues from Essem’s functionalist past and artisanal manufacturing processes, Stockholm based graphic and product design studio Bedow, developed a packaging solution for Nostalgi that contrasts two vastly different sizes of Futura, reflecting the products bold, iconic style and attention to detail, set across an uncoated, unbleached substrate as a single colour print treatment that neatly draws together the aspects of art, craft and modernistic design principles. The off-the-edge type bleed is a nice reference to the modular and extendable nature of the product that really compliments the width of the packaging.
