La Taverna Del Suculent is a traditional kitchen and table-less bar in the Spanish city of Barcelona. It serves homemade dishes and is described as the “next door restaurant”, a place for those looking to avoid cotton napkins and pretentious waiters, and are happy to settle for vermuth, la caña and cheese.
La Taverna Del Suculent’s brand identity, designed by Comité, respects and draws on many of the characteristics and design assets from the original restaurant, whilst introducing what the studio describe as a blackguard touch. This is visualised through a bright red ink, uncoated and unbleached boards, white porcelain dishes, traditional pottery and classic glassware, a new stamp inspired by bullfight graphics, as well as a simple diamond pattern, retro order book and hand painted signage. The treatment takes many well-established typographical details of the past, subtle cultural references and executes these with a contemporary restraint, quality and consistency. The project included business cards, coasters and menus.
Los Italianos is a traditional Italian food producer and retailer with three locations across Barcelona but with its roots in the Piemonte region of Italy and a significant history that dates back to 1939. Los Italianos recently commissioned Spanish design studio Huaman to develop a new brand identity that would better position them within the gourmet category, introduce an elegance and modernity whilst retaining a sense of heritage. This was achieved through the simple leveraging of familiar, high quality and traditional design cues of a script, shield and foil, and fusing these with the contemporary distinction of bold geometric shapes informed by the diversity of Italian pastas. These were applied to business cards, packaging and signage.
Numbered is a range of handcrafted home-ware products and individual commissions, created by Basque product, space and graphic designer Martín Azúa, that explore the relationship between functionality, emotion and conceptual thinking, and blur the line between tradition and innovation. A limited and controlled production context, personalisation and a connection to the local environment bring further value to each object and influence their form, material and manufacture. These values are referenced in a new brand identity solution developed by Barcelona based design studio P.A.R which included logotype, custom script, business cards and tag design.
