Neighbourhood by Ahoy, United Kingdom

Logo and signage for Manchester restaurant, bar and club Neighbourhood by Ahoy, United Kingdom

Neighbourhood is a restaurant, bar and club, located in the centre of Manchester, with a vibrant and eclectic interior inspired by New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas dining scenes. This is brought to life through the juxtaposition of bright neon signage and indoor foliage alongside the more classical qualities of copper fixtures and fittings, marble surfaces and velvet upholstered furniture. This contrast is also expressed throughout Neighbourhood’s brand identity, developed by Manchester and Liverpool-based studio Ahoy, in contrasting colour choice, type and pattern. This links business cards, packaging, menus and interior graphics, and coincided with an extensive refurbishment of the restaurant.

Paul’s at Haymarket by 25AH, Sweden

Branded bill clip for Stockholm-based restaurant Paul's at Haymarket by 25AH, Sweden

Paul’s is a restaurant located in the Haymarket hotel which is situated at the heart of the Swedish capital of Stockholm. The restaurant is named after Paul U. Bergström, founder of a well-known department store that previously occupied the building, and features a distinctive period interior of bent wood chairs, white tiles, leather banquette seating, marble surfaces and art deco-inspired flourishes. This is a reflection of Paul’s menu which is inspired by classical European cuisine and the American grill from the turn of the century.

Scandinavian graphic design studio 25AH created a visual identity for Paul’s that although simple in its graphic expression, draws on Haymarket’s signage, unchanged since the 1920s, the history of the building, the restaurant’s period interior and its European and American menu. This is expressed through type, neon signage and materiality which links rich interior design with a more restrained set of printed materials that included matchbooks, menus, postcards, tableware and bill clips.

Brand identity, logo and stationery design by New York based Sagmeister & Walsh for contemporary restaurant Otium

Otium is a contemporary restaurant developed by American chef and restaurateur Timothy Hollingsworth. It is located in downtown LA and has a menu of rustic dishes made from sustainable ingredients grown on its mezzanine level and cooked over a wood fire. The restaurant features an open kitchen that merges indoor and outdoor spaces, created with the communal areas of its neighbours, The Broad Museum of Contemporary Art and Grand Avenue, in mind. This is also expressed in the name, rooted in Latin, which describes a place of leisurely social activity, and throughout its brand identity, which intended to bring the outdoors in. This is achieved using a mix of materials across packaging, menus, stationery, coasters and business cards, subtly expressed by a simple logo, and more explicitly as a large and detailed mural, all created by New York based graphic design studio Sagmeister & Walsh.
