Opinion by Richard Baird.

Brand identity and gold foiled business cards by Austrian graphic design studio Seite Zwei for Graz-based restaurant Landhaus Keller.

Landhauskeller is a restaurant and bar in the Austrian city of Graz, housed within a building that is over 400 years old. It has a distinctive and highly ornamental interior reflective of the building’s history, and a quirky, current and unusual presentation style. Together these play with classical and contemporary materials, details and forms. Script logotype for Stockholm-based cafe Gretas at Haymarket designed by 25AH, Sweden

Gretas is a café set within the Haymarket, a hotel located at the heart of Stockholm, Sweden. The building was formerly home to a famous department store that dates back to the early 20th century and was the place where actress Greta Garbo was discovered while working at one of the concessions.

25AH, the Scandinavian graphic design studio behind Haymarket’s own brand identity, as well as Paul’s, a restaurant also situated within the hotel, worked on the brand identity for Gretas. Where Paul’s was darker and more robust in colour and type, inspired by the hotel’s signage, Greta’s is light and personable, drawing on an informal interior, whilst working in the iconic status and history of its location through name and illustration. The project went on to include signage, packaging, menus, stationery and business cards.

Logo and signage for Manchester restaurant, bar and club Neighbourhood by Ahoy, United Kingdom

Neighbourhood is a restaurant, bar and club, located in the centre of Manchester, with a vibrant and eclectic interior inspired by New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas dining scenes. This is brought to life through the juxtaposition of bright neon signage and indoor foliage alongside the more classical qualities of copper fixtures and fittings, marble surfaces and velvet upholstered furniture. This contrast is also expressed throughout Neighbourhood’s brand identity, developed by Manchester and Liverpool-based studio Ahoy, in contrasting colour choice, type and pattern. This links business cards, packaging, menus and interior graphics, and coincided with an extensive refurbishment of the restaurant.
