14 Islands by Bedow, Sweden

Opinion by Richard Baird

Logotype and business card by Bedow for Swedish creative development studio 14islands

14 Islands is a Swedish digital development studio that focuses on the design and build of distinctive and creative user experiences for companies such as Google, Adidas and Plume. Although its products are diverse, and include websites, apps and web-based games, these are linked by the studio’s commitment to balancing good design principles and technical performance with natural and playful interactions across all devices and screen sizes. The studio also experiments with emerging technologies, often gives talks and runs development workshops. This mix of play and technical insight is expressed by their new visual identity, designed by Stockholm-based Bedow, through colour, form, animated logo and dynamic on-screen elements, paired with the technical rigour of Monokrom’s screen-only font Aften. Visual identity runs across and connects assets such as business cards, t-shirts, tote bags, signage and website.

Roger Burkhard by Lundgren+Lindqvist, Sweden

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Brand identity and die cut promotional card by Lundgren+Lindqvist for Swiss web dev and interactive studio Roger Burkhard.

Roger Burkhard is a creative web development and interactive studio based in Bern, Switzerland, with a roster of clients throughout the creative industries. The studio worked with Scandinavian designers Lundgren+Lindqvist on the development of a new brand identity. This included monogram, brand guidelines and website, as well as a stationery set that covered business card and promotional cards, letterhead, invoice and invoice reminder.

Lundgren+Lindqvist, with the intention of avoiding industry convention, brings a thorough material and crafted quality to a service that often favours digital communication, yet layers this with more familiar web-based expressions. These draw on and work together themes such as problem solving, responsive design and creative thinking, conveyed through puzzle pieces, a modular system with a baseline grid and flexible header, and adds a moment of play in the choice of a bright spot colour.

Erik Penser Bank Cookbook by Bedow, Sweden

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Cookbook Christmas gift by Bedow for Erik Penser Bank 2016

Erik Penser Bank provides its clients with independent financial advice and a high-level of personal service. While large banks do provide similar services, Erik Penser Bank is Sweden’s only dedicated private banking business.

Professionalism, experience and an individualised service practice is expressed throughout the bank’s visual identity, created by Bedow, in the personable and less corporate association and aesthetic qualities of a new monogram. This then informs some distinctive pictograms, is paired with a custom typeface and set across uncoated papers and boards.

Bedow continue to work with Erik Penser Bank, drawing its brand identity across a Christmas gift for the bank’s clients; a cookbook that holds eighteen recipes from the resident chef. Titled Matnyttiga råd, this is a limited edition 130×210 mm hardbound book of 32 pages with a green fabric cover and a white block foil print finish.
