Opinion by Richard Baird.

Branding and brochure for Footscray property development The Hugo designed by Studio Brave featuring illustration by Andy Murray

The Hugo is a new residential property development, made up of 23 apartments, located in the Melbourne suburb of Foostcray. It is a hi-tech building with a distinctive perforated façade, and a design that leverages natural light and air flow. Its apartments were designed to be flexible and secure, with a particular focus on livability, functionality and beauty, and feature interiors reflective of Australia. This is characterised by earthy colours, wools and timber.

The Hugo’s brand identity and campaign material, created by Studio Brave, convey the spirit behind the development and the emerging culture and increasing diversity of Footscray through illustrative panels by local artist Andy Murray and photography by Sayher Heffernan. These capture the area’s vibrant lifestyle in image but also through the collaborative nature of their creation.

Branding for Melbourne based non-invasive cosmetic surgery The Doctor's Studio by graphic design studio A Friend Of Mine

The Doctor’s Studio provides non-invasive dermatological treatments and skin care procedures from its clinic in the Australian city of Melbourne. It has a philosophy that avoids feeding on insecurities and intends to facilitate positive change and foster a sense of well-being.

This extended to furnishing, signage, illustration, business cards and web design, working in collaboration with architects Russell and George, Kelly Thompson of UNA and illustrator Stuart McLachlan.

Loving Earth by Round, Australia

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Package design for Loving Earth raw chocolate by graphic design studio Round

Loving Earth is an Australian business, established in 2007 by Scott Fry and Martha Butler, that produces a variety of chocolates, snacks, cereals, butters and spreads. All of Loving Earth’s products are made from high quality, organic and fairtrade ingredients, and include ranges that are gluten, grain, dairy and sugar-free. Although taking advantage of a growing multi-million dollar industry, Loving Earth’s values are grounded by a genuine passion for environmental sustainability and individual well-being, rather than wealth, which is expressed, at length, online.

Loving Earth worked with Melbourne based graphic design studio Round to redesign its raw chocolate packaging. This replaces a low impact but earthy design with one of visual interest that effectively uses colour, form and type to make a better and more compelling connection with raw ingredient, emphasises flavour profile and secures a far more idiosyncratic quality.
