OTHR by Franklyn, United States

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Branding by New York-based design studio Franklyn for innovative product design company OTHR

OTHR creates unique objects that take advantage of new production methods and materials, and brings together the world’s best designers and transformative technologies. OTHR’s objects exist at a point where art and design intersect, are simple, practical but desirable in form, and are manufactured and individually numbered to order in a way that has minimal environmental impact.

OTHR designers include British designer Sebastian Bergne, Claessen Koivisto Rune from Stockholm and New York studio Todd Bracher. These designers contribute to a diverse catalogue of objects for juicing, cutting and holding, and share the philosophy of owning fewer but better things.

With simplicity at the centre, New York-based graphic design studio Franklyn created a new brand identity and delivery system to compliment the extraordinary nature of OTHR’s products. This included logotype and logo design, and extended to illustration, packaging and posters.

Linden Staub by Bibliothèque, United Kingdom

Logo and business cards with gold foil and embossed detail for UK model agency Linden Staub by Bibliothèque.

Linden Stuab is a UK-based model agency challenging industry conventions with their mantra ‘Empowering Women’, and by acting as a mother agency to all of their models. The name Linden Staub, derived from the maiden names of the two founding partner’s mothers, is an expression of this, and alongside the agency’s strong human-focus, was the basis for their new brand identity, created by graphic design studio Bibliothèque. This links a variety of collateral, from stationery and business cards to model cards, tote bags and a new digital platform that takes a journal-like approach to content.

Rattis Books by The Counter Press, United Kingdom

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Branding by London-based design studio, private press and typography workshop The Counter Press for UK independent publisher Rattis Books.

Rattis Books is a new London-based independent publisher that celebrates the convergence of traditional and modern print processes and has a firm belief that the book is an art object. To help convey this, the publisher worked with design studio, private press and typography workshop The Counter Press to create their brand identity, and the design for their first book Tiro, a collection of football writings.

Taking their cues from the name, Latin for raft or ship, and the publisher’s processes and beliefs, The Counter Press created a simple but neat logo and logotype combination, printed this across triplex business cards and weighty bookmarks with a deep impression, and used hand-inked and letterpress elements in their design of Tiro.

M11 studio by Inhouse, New Zealand

Brand identity for Auckland-based luxe salon M11 designed by Inhouse, New Zealand

M11 studio is a luxe salon, located in the heart of the fashion, shopping and entertainment district of Newmarket, Auckland, that references the refinery of a Tom Ford fashion boutique. It has a well-proportioned, spacious, linear and light filled interior of large mirrors, strip and spot lighting, white and black walls, gold fixtures, concrete surfaces and robust furniture developed by architects Young + Richards and designer Lauren Hare.

This mix of contemporary space and luxe service is expressed through the structure, colour and materiality of the salon’s brand identity, created by graphic design studio Inhouse, in the form and construction of the logo, the finish of printed collateral, the application of window graphics and the material of exterior signage.
