A.N Other by Socio Design, United Kingdom

Luxury fragrance brand A.N Other – Branding and packaging by Socio Design, United King dom

A. N Other gives its perfumers the creative room to craft limited edition, luxury and high concentration fragrances free from the pressures of consumer trends, market segmentation and budgetary constraints. These are then sold directly to consumers through its website. A.N Other places greater value on the internal composition of each of its fragrances, and the inspirations and aspirations of its creators, than the outward expression and associated expense of boutique spaces, lavish adverts, glossy magazine coverage and celebrity endorsements. This direct to consumer approach and a focus on ingredient quality, concentration and sustainability, as well as perfumer and fragrance story, is distilled down and projected by graphic identity, developed by Socio Design, initially online through website, and continuing into packaging. These are linked by naming and strategy, and by details that include bespoke typeface and logotype, brand imagery and copywriting, also created by Socio Design.

Kape 24h by Bond, Finland

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Cookbook designed by Helsinki based Bond for chef and restauranteur Kari Aihinen

Kari Aihinen is a Finnish chef with a growing international reputation. Aside from creating exclusive pop-up Finnish dinning experiences for New Yorkers, working for Ravintola Savoy and developing one-off Nordic-Asian menus with chef Eric Neo in Singapore, he is also the co-founder and headchef of Helsinki restaurant Roster.

Roster is a distinct experience. It features an interior design of custom furniture with a vintage twist, raw and refined materials and hand-picked design objects. Although sophisticated, Roster is a casual rather than formal dinning experience. The restaurant’s graphic identity, designed by Scandinavian studio Bond, is an articulation of this, and the brisk, humorous and warm personality of Kari Aihinen. This is furthered explored in the design of Kari Aihinen’s new cookbook Kape 24h, also designed by Bond.

Maldini Studios by Jens Nilsson, Sweden

Opinion by Richard Baird

Logotype and letterpress business cards by Jens Nilsson for interior design and carpentry business Maldini Studios

Maldini Studios is a Stockholm-based interior design and carpentry studio made up of project manager and carpenter Rasmus Moberg, interior designer Elina Johansson and carpenter Theo Klyvar. The studio’s work often uses precise lines and geometric forms to elevate the irregular detail and texture of natural materials. There are moments of utilitarian and ornamental juxtaposition, times at which this feels subtle and transitional, others where it is more severe and abrupt. Much of the studio’s work displays a contextual sensitivity, either in its continuity with or intentional opposition to space.

Drawing on the forms, materials and woodworking craft of the studio, as well as its understanding of object and space Swedish designer Jens Nilsson, former Design Director at Snask, built an identity that explores the intersection of the functional and the sculptural, material pleasure and communicative intention. This is done through the distinctive typographical forms of a custom typeface, a material variety, and by employing letterpress as a bridge between the two. Graphic identity runs across website and a variety of printed assets, these include stationery and business cards, branded items such as tote bags and scarves, as well as signage.
