Peter Dibdin is a photographer who brings creativity, technical knowledge, professionalism and a personal approach to both studio and location shoots for clients working within the commercial, private, arts and editorial sectors. Following a recent move to a studio in Edinburgh’s creative hub of Summerhall, Peter commissioned long-term collaborator O Street to refresh his brand identity in a way that would reflect his new surroundings.
Based around a bold contemporary mark that blends the traditional and individual craft origins of a monogram with what looks like an abstract aperture or ring light, the near neutral sans-serif characters of a logotype built from Pragmatica, and a black ink across a grey boards, Peter’s new visual identity manages to balance personal service with a modernistic neutrality and a cool urban utility. These effectively frame and draw out, through contrast, the colour, detail and people-centric nature of Peter’s portfolio online.
Harry Watts is a British photographer who takes a systematic approach to location and explores the relationship between people and objects. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and was selected by Italian Vogue for solo exhibitions in London and Madrid.
Harry’s brand identity, developed by London based studio Birch, is representative of his unique process of removing excess information through the simple combination of a single bold, uppercase and condensed sans-serif typeface, black ink and plenty of unprinted white space, and utilises an unconventional structure, ‘ruthlessly’ pushing text off edges, to draw distinction from these. Elements such as surface texture and newsprint are introduced to reinforce project specific concepts such as high quality materials, discarded objects and mass communication whilst retaining the non-essential philosophy. The result is an unwavering consistent austerity that successfully draws out photographic detail and conveys, without undermining, Harry’s reductive process.
Giles Duley is a British documentary photographer and photojournalist with ten years of editorial experience within the fashion and music industries and who now works internationally with many NGOs to document those fighting adversity. He is known for capturing humanitarian issues, the consequences of conflict and the human spirit with dignity, creating through his photographs an “intimacy and empathy” for lives that differ from ours only in circumstance.
His brand identity, a combination of a familiar but well executed sans-serif logotype, the subtlety of a blind emboss and deboss print finish, and an uncoated, unbleached, mixed fibre set of boards created by London based Shaz Madani, neatly avoids appearing flashy or individually expressive, and instead has a modesty and truth to materials that feels appropriate for the themes of Giles’ work. It is a small project with few assets but with a sensitivity and restraint not often seen so well handled.
