Sissy’s Southern Kitchen is a Texas based restaurant created by celebrity chef Lisa Garza, a former contestant on The Next Food Network Star, that serves southern classics such as fried chicken, bourbon bread pudding and gulf shrimp n’ grits. Developed by brand design agency Tractorbeam, Sissy’s visual identity takes a classic 50′s photo-illustrated approach and gives it a consistent quality across a diverse set of assets.
These are the five projects I reviewed during January that I felt really stood out and wanted to give them another opportunity to be seen and discussed. I have ordered these from five to one with my favourite project presented last. Do you agree with my choices?
Mangolds is a vegetarian and wholefood restaurant situated on Griesgasse street in the centre of Graz, Austria. The restaurant’s identity, created by brand and strategic design agency Moodley, counters the perceptions of vegetarian cuisine as bland and limited with a diverse mix of typefaces.
Kavli Moen Gård is a guest house, farm, restaurant, hunting and fishing experience located between the mountains in the small village of Eresfjord, Norway. Strømme Throndsen Design, an Oslo based independent design studio, was tasked with developing a unique visual identity and website solution that would resolve the outdoor pursuits, comfort and exclusive dining experience the brand has to offer.
Five & Dime is a new restaurant and cafe located on River Valley Road, Singapore. Their identity, designed by Bravo Company takes the theme of American 5 or 10 cent stores and crafts a diverse portfolio of brand assets and an affordable product line.
Ascari Enoteca is a new Italian restaurant situated on Queens Street East, Toronto, Canada and named after the proprietors hero, Formula 1 legend, Alberto Ascari, (who was also known for his love of food). To reflect both the passion for good simple food and racing, independent brand design agency Blok developed an identity that fuses the visual sensibilities and photography of 1950′s motor sport with a simple roundel and typographic logo-mark.
Tjuvholmen Sjømagasin is a Norwegian grilled seafood restaurant owned by the Fursetgruppen group and located waterside in an area under redevelopment just outside the Aker Brygge region of Oslo. The restaurant’s identity, designed by Work In Progress, reflects the architectural theme ‘a play with water’, the high quality and delicate flavours of the food with fines lines, an undulating custom logo-type and symbol.
Yoobi Sushi will be a new Japanese hand crafted seafood experience based in Soho, London serving temaki rolls and fresh sushi, eaten by hand from a cone in a restaurant. The new name and identity, managed by brand design agency Ico is based around the word ‘yubi’ (Japanese for finger) and was inspired by the founders’ trips to Rio and Tokyo.
