New brand identity and packaging by Parallax Design for family run and award winning winery Penley Estate, Australia

Penley Estate is a family run winery established in 1989 by Kym Tolley and located in the wine growing area of Coonawarra, Australia. It produces wines that are described as having discernible regional character and are made from fruit grown in Terra Rossa soil; a red clay type created by the weathering of limestone. Penley Estate, since its inception, has produced a number of award-winning wines, and is recognised as the region’s leading producer of premium wines.

The winery worked with Parallax Design; a studio that, prior to this project, had spent time looking at the problems faced by wine producers of the Cabernet regions, to develop a new visual identity that would, not only express a change at Penley Estate, but also give Coonawarra Cabernet a more contemporary quality. This runs across new wine labels, website and livery.

Logo, stationery, print and packaging by Mucho for Dutch online wine subscription service Sommos

Summos is an online platform that gathers together and shares the knowledge of the six best sommeliers of the Netherlands and offers a seasonal subscription service that sends out a selection of some of the country’s best wines once every two months. Sommos worked with graphic design studio Mucho to develop name, brand identity and packaging.

Based around the concept of group and innovation, and clearly informed by the curated nature of Sommos’ content, service and sommeliers, Mucho delivered a name and logotype with a simple corkscrew at its centre, a light and contemporary colour palette and the crafted and personable qualities of brush stroke patterns. This links subscription boxes, business cards, stationery, tags and tissue paper. This project was completed in 2015 but was documented and uploaded to Mucho’s site recently.

Packaging for Spanish wine label Estones de Mishima designed by graphic design studio Folch

Vins de Mas Sersal is a Spanish wine producer, founded by winemaker Salvi Moliner and sommelier Sergi Montalà in 2008. Inspired by the lyrics of Qui n’ha Begut from the album Set Tota La Vida (Thirsty The Whole Life) by singer, songwriter and friend of Salvi and Sergi, David Carabén of the indie band Mishima, the winery created a special edition release of its Estones.

Estones de Mishima is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan grapes grown in the lands of Catalonia and aged seven months. The bottle features a distinctive label by Barcelona based graphic design studio Folch that takes its cues from Mishima’s Set Tota La Vida album cover, also designed by Folch. The result is described by the studio as a unique and synergic combination, and the Spanish wine industry’s first co-branded venture.
