The Dayrooms by Two Times Elliott, United Kingdom

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Gift voucher designed by Two Times Elliott for Australian fashion boutique in London The Dayrooms

The Dayrooms is a multi-label womenswear store, located in the London district of Notting Hill, created by Aytan Mehdiyeva and Zumrud Mammadova. The store gives a UK platform to emerging Australian designers and is an expression of Aytan and Zumrud’s shared passion for fashion and travel, and Aytan’s love of photography, textiles and Australian craftsmanship. This is reflected throughout The Dayroom’s graphic identity, developed by Two Times Elliott, not only in the simple but carefully crafted intersection of reductive graphic expression and material detail, but in the concept of curated moments, expressed through language, image and objects.

Building on their work for The Dayrooms’ retail space, Two Times Elliott also went on to develop graphic identity, spacial creative and brand direction for The Dayrooms Café, an Australian-inspired organic café located in the London boroughs of Holborn and Notting Hill. Assets included loyalty cards, coffee cups, takeaway bags, branded tissue paper and website.

Well Coffee by Bond, Finland

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Brand identity and coffee cups by Bond for Helsinki-based vegetarian café Well Coffee

Well Coffee is a new vegetarian café in the centre of the Finnish capital of Helsinki. It has a distinctive interior of steel frames and wood surfaces, exposed concrete walls, drilled and CNC cut panels of circles, large menu board, marine lamps and potted plants. These blend the current and utilitarian with the more welcoming. Scandinavian graphic design studio Bond worked with the café on brand identity. This included illustration and custom typography, implemented as signage, across packaging and throughout website. These are linked by wave-like elements, inspired by the symbol associated with the cafe’s location in Kaivopiha, and recurring circular detail that makes a connection with interior design.

Talor&Jørgen Coffee by Bielke & Yang, Norway

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Packaging design by Olso-based Bielke & Yang for Norwegian coffee roastery and subscription service Talor & Jørgen

Talor&Jørgen is a Norwegian speciality coffee roastery and coffee subscription service delivering small boxes of freshly roasted beans, sourced from across the globe, to subscribers based on their drinking habits rather than to a schedule. Product naming focuses on bringing to the forefront flavour notes rather than bean provenance, variety and preparation (although this is online and on pack) with the intention of making speciality coffee far more accessible and addressing the divide that exists within the Norwegian market. The range changes seasonally and currently includes Apricot & Black Tea, Blackcurrant & Sugar Snap Pea and Elderflower & Butter, sourced from Kenya and Ethiopia. Talor&Jørgen’s packaging design, developed by Oslo-based studio Bielke & Yang, expresses the accessible intentions of brand and freshness of its coffee in the distinctive pairing of a small robust structural choice that holds 250g, and the tone and content of Janne Iivonen’s illustrative work.
