Brand identity for La Pecora Bianca by Pentagram, United States

La Pecora Bianca is a New York restaurant, located in the St. James building at Broadway and West 26th Street, with a menu inspired by the seasonal farm-to-table cooking of rural Italy. The restaurant is said to evolve, moving from breakfast, coffee and wine bar throughout the day to restaurant in the evening.

La Pecora Bianca worked with Pentagram partner Emily Oberman and her team to develop a visual identity that would capture and convey a healthy wholesome menu, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and would compliment an interior by Nema Workshop. This extended across menus, coasters, signage, tableware and postcards.

Swedish Forest Industries Federation by BVD, Sweden

Opinion by Richard Baird.

Brand identity and blind emboss brochure for Skogsindustrierna, the Swedish Forest Industries Federation, by BVD

With the intention of better communicating the endless possibilities of the forest, the concept of Bioeconomy and a commitment to a sustainable future, Skogsindustrierna, the representative of the Swedish pulp, paper and woodworking industries, worked with Scandinavian design studio BVD to help move them away from a complicated tonality and give their communication a clarity, focus and accessibility.

With this in mind, the studio created an identity and communication platform that presents the forest in a fresh and unconventional way. This included a new and concise approach to tone of voice, expressed through a consistent use of Futura and clear speaking and compelling videography, image contrast, a light and contemporary colour palette, the utility and technological undertone of monolinear icons, and the innovative and sustainable qualities of FibreForm in print.

Branding for Toronto restaurant Nota Bene by graphic design studio Blok, Canada

Nota Bene is a restaurant, located on Toronto’s Queen Street West, with a menu made from locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients. It was opened by chef David Lee and business partners Yannick Bigourdan and Franco Prevedello in 2008, and was awarded “Best New Restaurant” by Toronto Life and enRoute Magazine soon after.

To coincide with the restaurant’s 2016 relaunch—which saw David Lee take sole ownership and the unveiling of a new menu and interior—Nota Bene worked with Canadian graphic design studio Blok to develop a new visual identity. This was inspired by David Lee’s approach to food and the restaurant’s new environment; a marriage of organic detail and contemporary materiality created by +tongtong, and runs across menus, stationery, business cards, postcards, coasters, packaging and website.
