Package design and branding for Bibelot designed by A Friend Of Mine

Bibelot is a luxury European-inspired dessert boutique in Melbourne with a coffee bar, chocolate shop, high tea salon, gelaterie and artisinal patisserie. It features an interior of long marble counters, a light spotted stone floor, spot lighting, cornicing, black and white walls, as well as bronze and tiled detailing.

Informed by the sense of place and the permanence that underpins Bibelot’s concept, reflected in its classic interior flourishes, graphic design studio A Friend Of Mine developed a brand identity that links interior, signage and packaging, makes a connection with craft, through traditional monochromatic mosaics and a geometric sans-serif logotype, and draws out, using bright spot colour panels, the colourful detail, distinctive flavour and variety of its confectionery.

Packaging designed by A Friend Of Mine for Belgian waffle and coffee chain Waffee

Waffee is an authentic Belgian waffle and coffee chain with locations across Melbourne and Altona. Developed by holistic design practice A Friend Of Mine, Waffee’s brand identity, which included logo and packaging design, menu boards and a signage system created in collaboration with architects Hecker Guthrie and Foolscap Studio, mixes a typographically adventurous logotype with an illustrated character to establish a rich communicative duality and contrast of literal and subtle narrative detail that binds print and interior space.

The Town Mouse by A Friend Of Mine

The Town Mouse is a new Melbourne-based bar and restaurant owned by Christian McCabe and located in the space formerly occupied by the Embrasse Restaurant. Developed by A Friend Of Mine, the bar’s new brand identity delivers impact through the ‘big city’ and slightly retrospective dimensionality of tall, slim, skyscraper-like, uppercase characters of the logotype set within and alongside the grids of the collateral. A local crafted quality through the shared, brushed surface relationship between digital artwork and the physicality of gold painted window signage. And a daytime night-time duality – perhaps a reference to the bar/restaurant proposition – of a black and cream colour palette, enhanced by the really neat use of photo-luminescent ink across their business cards.
