Basket is a family run business located in the Serbian village of Golubinci who produce baked, additive and preservative free foods, made by hand from whole-wheat flour. Replacing a local but rudimentary aesthetic with a more commercial and communicative resolution of design conventions, Peter Gregson, working in collaboration with illustrator Marijana Rotthat, utilised contrasting type, plenty of white space, certifications front of pack and a loose illustrative style to neatly convey authentic regional hand craft and high quality in a contemporary way.
F. Whitlock & Sons is a New Zealand based producer of pickles and sauces with a heritage that dates back to 1877, a heritage that over the last century had disappeared from the packaging. Design studio Marx, in collaboration with running with scissors, sort to bring back and celebrate this with a mix of copywriting wit and illustrative authenticity based around Fred Whitlock’s love of hunting, an approach taken to tap into the ‘dormant frontier huntsman and mischievous child within’, and establish a more contemporary and emotive brand character set within the context of a significant history.
Desi Cooks is described by Designers Anonymous – the studio behind their new brand strategy, logo and packaging – as a “kitchen-table start-up enterprise” that batch produce original recipes for the prepared Asian food market. The studio was tasked with taking the brand name ‘Desi Cooks’, a “homely, traditional term for the people, cultures, and products of India”, and developing a packaging solution that communicated traditional authenticity and modern-day convenience.
