ÅKA is a hair salon, developed by stylist and makeup artist Alex Kormann, located in the Hillegersberg area of Rotterdam (NL). The salon’s name and visual identity, created by multidisciplinary design agency DC, utilises the high fashion and architectural sensibilities of a bold and well spaced sans serif set alongside a mono-line weight twist on the classic barber’s pole to convey precision, contemporary style and personal service.
Boutique design agency Studio h was recently commissioned to develop the visual identity and packaging for UK based snack food brand Chow and its first three products, Mini Chorizo, Beef Biltong and Queen Green Olives. Based around a non-format, cut and paste, mixed typographical approach and stamp texture, the design solution establishes a confident, quirky and playful brand personality while capturing the handcrafted quality and unexpected flavours of the product.
Jorge Diego Etienne is a Monterrey (MX) based industrial designer and studio owner. His new identity, created by multidisciplinary design agency Savvy, neatly contrasts technical and professional precision with a sense of personal handcraft through a complementary combination of tall geometric letterforms and curved terminals—executed across a monogram and logotype, the utilisation of grids, guides and fine lines, uncoated material choices, a blind emboss and the modular sticker and hand stamped print finish of the collaterals. The colour palette offers a similar juxtaposition and duality through the clinical and efficient use of white space and the contemporary creativity (and single colour restraint) of a vivid red.
