PangPang Summer Beer designed by Snask

Opinion by Robert Holmkvist.

Packaging with custom lettering designed by Swedish design company Snask for microbrewery PangPang's 2014 summer beers

PangPang is a Stockholm based microbrewery that was established by oddball Fredrik Tunedal in 2011. Fredrik, only 23 at the time, tattooed PangPang across his knuckles to celebrate the founding of what he believes to be Sweden’s first microbrewery. These knuckles now form the basis of the brewery’s logotype.

Swedish design studio Snask were commissioned to develop a strategy for PangPang’s 2014 summer series of hand brewed beers that would help them to compete within a growing craft beer sector and with the increasing number of microbreweries. This would be achieved by creating a playful visual identity and packaging solution that would stand out on shelves stacked with beer labels that often lacked individual character. The design and naming was built around the theme of tiki — a choice that felt suitable for summer beers and would create an ideal opportunity for interesting, distinctive and cheeky names. These included Cocojambo, Playa del Drevviken, Waikiki, Libertango and Tiki Tango.

Hotel Koster designed by Bedow

Logo designed by Bedow for Swedish oceanside accommodation and conference centre Hotel Koster. Featured on bpando.org

Hotel Koster is a small hotel, established in 1905 and located on the remote South Koster island inside Sweden’s Kosterhavets Marine National Park. It offers accommodation, meeting facilities and conference centre set within a unique natural environment with access to a variety of outdoor activities. Koster’s rooms mix maritime design with the comforts of home, are bright modern spaces lit by plenty of natural light and have large windows, many of which face the waters of Kosterfjorden.

The hotel’s brand identity, which included logotype, animated logo, adverts, menus, posters, signs, staff clothing and stationery design, was recently created by Bedow. Utilising a current illustrative simplicity and plenty of internal space, alongside a slab-serif, compelling photography and a light colour palette, Bedow’s treatment captures the contemporary nature and maritime theme of the hotel, and the tranquility of its surroundings.

The Swedish Social Democratic Youth League, abbreviated to SSU, is a branch of the Swedish Social Democratic Party, associated with the Swedish Trade Union Confederation, and one of the largest youth leagues in the country with a membership of over 10,000. In response to an upcoming general election, which took place on September 14th, the SSU looked to readdress its visual identity which had remained untouched for ten years.

Designed by Snask and launched a few months prior to the election, the SSU’s new visual identity, drawing colour from its relationship with the Trade Union Confederation and Social Democrats, using bold typography, and introducing a variety of more accessible details, broadens its communicative value and aesthetic impact, and unifies its members under one cohesive system.
