F. Whitlock & Sons is a New Zealand based producer of pickles and sauces with a heritage that dates back to 1877, a heritage that over the last century had disappeared from the packaging. Design studio Marx, in collaboration with running with scissors, sort to bring back and celebrate this with a mix of copywriting wit and illustrative authenticity based around Fred Whitlock’s love of hunting, an approach taken to tap into the ‘dormant frontier huntsman and mischievous child within’, and establish a more contemporary and emotive brand character set within the context of a significant history.
Bau recently commissioned Greek multidisciplinary design agency Mousegraphics to develop a new packaging solution for their building material range that would convey construction in a simple, modern, distinctive way to both professionals and hobbyists. Taking inspiration from the video game Tetris, Mousegraphics created a striking packaging solution that utilises the iconic four block form of Tetriminos and a distinctive fluorescent ink print treatment to neatly resolve the themes of individual creativity and commercial construction in a contemporary way.
Victor Design have recently completed the packaging for Taiwan High Mountain Tea, a range of maple, bamboo, cedar, plum, pine and lily infused teas that have their origins in the high-altitude mountain top estates of Taiwan. Victor’s approach neatly captures provenance with a three fold fusion of distinctive mountain silhouettes, flora and indigenous mountain birds illustrated with fantastic level of detail by hand using ink that quickly establishes a clear sense of craft.
