dsigndot is an on-line lifestyle store that showcases and retails furniture, fashion and jewellery work from designers and artists such as Zaha Hadid and Phil Cuttance as well new and emerging talent. The site’s identity, created by London-based design studio Build, draws together unusual typographical characters under a cohesive and contemporary aesthetic to deliver a distinctive and subtle craft sensibility that reflects the unique and high quality pieces sold through the site.

Bedroc is a Tennessee-based consultancy firm that takes complex business issues and simplifies them with technology to reduce risk, optimise efficiency and creating revenue for its clients (ROC). The firm’s visual identity, created by multidisciplinary design agency Perky Bros, avoids the conventions of the industry and instead favours a direction that draws an analogy between bedrock and technology—the physical stability, sub-surface and base nature of bedrock and the in-depth and founding technological principles and practices of the business—through a logotype and collateral combination that has a layered and earthy quality.
These are the five identity projects I reviewed during 2012 that I felt really stood out and wanted to give them another opportunity to be seen and shared. I have ordered these from five to one with my favourite project presented last. For me these manage to extract a lot of equity from very simple forms which are enhanced by a cohesive, often expandable but appropriately restrained execution across multiple touch-points.
