One Wellington St Kilda by Studio Ongarato

Opinion by Richard Baird

Brand identity and campaign designed by Studio Ongarato for property development One Wellington St Kilda

One Wellington, a partnership between LAS Group and Qualitas, is a new property development located in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda, not far from eclectic Fitzroy Street. The building’s architecture—designed by KPDO and comprised of 181 apartments across two buildings of 26 and 10 floors—features flowing curves inspired by its bayside location, highly-customisable interior options and unobstructed sky views. One Wellington is described as dramatic architectural expression on the skyline and an entry statement into St Kilda from the north.

Building on the highly-customisable and luxurious interior designs of KPDO, Studio Ongarato developed a visual identity and campaign directed towards a specific mindset and that draws on the multi-faceted sub-cultures of the area rather than a target market profile. This manifests itself, unusually, in a shifting tone throughout printed communications, moving from the sophisticated to the youthful, and from serious to humorous using photography, type, illustration and photography. Through this approach, Studio Ongarato’s campaign invites prospective residents to live ‘A life less ordinary’.

The One Wellington campaign identity is made up of a hardcover book, softcover booklets, posters, postcards and multi-format cards. Each unveils authentic stories from unexpected perspectives using a variety of creative techniques.

Varnom Ross by Bibliothèque

Opinion by Richard Baird

New logo and graphic identity designed by Bibliothèque for London-based specialist property recruitment service Varnom Ross

Varnom Ross is a London-based specialist recruitment agency carefully pairing property professionals with private and public sector clients operating throughout the UK. Their specialism emerges from a single-minded focus on searching for and discovering the perfect synergy between individual character and collective corporate culture, professional skill set and task. This is achieved through personal conversation rather than the impersonal algorithmic governance that characterises many of today’s recruitment firms. Varnom Ross worked with Bibliothèque to express this positioning through a distinct graphic identity of contrasts, graphic immediacy and personability across print (gifts, coffee cups, ink stamps, business cards and printed communications) and screen (website and social media posts).

Outline by Studio South

Opinion by Richard Baird

Visual identity and brochure design by Studio South for Outline, a six lot property development opportunity in Auckland

Outline is a six lot freehold property development opportunity from Fearon Hay Architects located on Kings Road on the border of Mount Eden and Mount Roskill in a culturally and historically rich neighbourhood in Auckland. Each lot is 95m2 with the capacity to build four levels and include a roof living space totalling 300m2 of floor area. Studio South worked with Fearon Hay Architects to develop a visual identity for Outline.

Absent architecture, positioning focuses on the unlimited potential of each lot, with a language that speaks to families and those individuals and couples looking for modern and adaptable living and working spaces. This is achieved through a distinct series of illustrations and simple graphic gesture that runs across website and brochure design. The Outline project, while focusing on selling the lot and planning permissions, also seeks to facilitate, or at least ease, the way to design and build through connections to partners.
