Eclectic-Mix is a fashion accessory label created by London based designer Rebecca Scott who has a diverse background in the luxury goods industry. She approached independent design agency Because Studio to develop an identity that would capture the fine detail, elegance and duality of her collection.
“After working for some of London’s luxury brands such as Garrards, Boodles and Links of London, Rebecca decided to put her love for collecting antique buttons and buckles to use and Eclectic-Mix was born.”
“Working closely with Rebecca an identity was developed to reflect the tactile, luxurious nature of the jewellery she produces. This was then applied to stationery, packaging and a simple website.” – Because Studio
“Eclectic-Mix was inspired and created from a love and passion for antique buttons and buckles. Our button pin has become our signature piece and we have a wonderful and exclusive range of glass/jet buttons dating from 1837 through to 1930. Each button is carefully selected for its individuality and beauty! We then mount them onto elegant brooch pins to create a very special and one of a kind gift!” – Eclectic-Mix
Continuing the logo-type theme from last week Eclectic-Mix neatly blends delicate and classic line weights, modernist letterforms and a dual line concept to suitably represent both the modern and vintage mix of Rebecca’s work. Each character is well constructed and nicely spaced and the ‘all caps’ execution balances out the finer details. The secondary type-face applied to ‘accessories’ looks very much like Museo and while the size, weight and spacing compliments the logo-type its widespread use marginally compromises the uniqueness of the brand, this is just a small criticism and should go largely unnoticed. The application of the identity across the printed collaterals utilises a gold foil and debossing (or letterpress) treatment that really enhances the line-weight and luxury aspect. The tactile texture of the substrate draws its inspiration from the materials used within Rebecca’s collections and has a very delicate cross-hatch detail that neatly resolves the classic and contemporary sensibilities.
