Brand identity and business cards by Toko for New York and Amsterdam-based creative production agency ShopAround

ShopAround is described as a creative supermarket, however, in more conventional terms, began as an artist representation agency in 1998. It has grown, since then, to become a creative production agency specialising in contemporary illustration, graphic design, animation, motion graphics and interactive design. ShopAround co-ordinates a network of over 80 international freelance designers, and fosters new creative talent from its offices in New York, Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

ShopAround worked with Sydney-based Design by Toko on a new visual identity. This appropriates the visual vernacular associated with independent supermarkets and small gift shops. Colour and shape are the basis of identity, with a referential quality that is playful and distinctive in its new context and proportionality. This links business cards, stickers and tote bags, with an updated website soon to follow.

East Sydney Early Learning Centre by Toko, Australia

Signage and wayfinding designed by graphic design studio Toko for East Sydney Early Learning & Community Centre

East Sydney Early Learning & Community Centre is a state of the art space located on Bourke Street. It provides childcare places for parents living or working in the inner city suburbs of Sydney. The centre, designed by ABA Architects, features five play rooms set over three levels, indoor playground on each floor and an open-air play area on the top floor. The space also includes a distinctive signage and wayfinding system, developed by Australian graphic design studio Toko, inspired by children’s building blocks.

Brand identity and branded pencil boxes for Sydney-based PR firm Hidden Characters by RE, Australia

Hidden Characters is the latest PR offering from international advertising agency network M&CSaatchi. It replaces/is an evolution of Bang PR, developed in response to the changing public relations landscape.

With the advent of social media and the subsequent growth of non-traditional influencers and an increase in inauthentic product placement, Hidden Characters intends to make sure that their client’s reach is handled in an ethical and authentic way.

Sydney-based graphic design studio RE worked to created a brand identity for Hidden Characters that articulates this intention with a concept that makes a connection between the hidden characters that shape how text appears and the creative behind the scenes shaping of a brand’s public perception. The idea of the seen and unseen plays out in a number of ways in print, and links business cards, headed paper, stationery and brochure.
