A. Lozano Rodríguez, in his novella Don Alonso de Suquía, writes of the deeds of swordsman and fictional character Don Alonso de Suquía after the reconquest of Granada, at the beginning of the 16th century. This limited edition cover, designed by Barcelona-based Carlos Bermudez, Albert Porta and Guillem Casasus, touches upon location, period, theme and limited edition context using colour, type, material and finish.

Kosmopolis by Hey, Spain

Logotype by Hey for Barcelona literature festival Kosmopolis

Kosmopolis is a five day literature festival that takes place in Barcelona every two years, but also has a programme of ongoing events in between. The festival, since 2002, has been organized by the exhibition and arts centre Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, and intends to promote literature in its many different forms. It does this through a series of talks and workshops. And by inviting professionals across a variety of fields; from poets, librarians and actors to comic-book artists, filmmakers and musicians, to discuss the key issues that concern the evolving nature of literature and present-day communications at large.

The centre recently worked with Spanish design studio Hey to create a visual identity for its 2017 event. Hey use colour to establish a continuity with previous events, but introduces a custom typeface that features characters informed by the digital, handwritten and painted word. This is complimented by a set of icons, and used to link programme guide, banners, signage and merchandise.

Enea by Clase bcn, Spain

Visual identity and stationery for furniture design and manufacturing business Enea designed by Clase bcn

Enea is a contemporary furniture manufacturer, located in Spain’s Basque Country, collaborating with respected designers such as Josep Lluscá, Gabriel Teixidó and the trio Lievore Alhterr Molina. Enea has a distinctive catalogue of versatile, comfortable and durable products, developed for both the private and commercial markets, with unique character in their play with form, colour and texture.

With a desire to differentiate itself from its competitors, and with the intentions of avoiding industry clichés, Enea worked with Barcelona-based graphic design studio Clase bcn to create a new visual identity that would articulate, through image and type, colour and materiality, the company’s Basque origin and unique products in a distinctive and contemporary fashion and, using a striking spartan style, reference industrial manufacturing.

The project extended to business cards, brand guidelines, product brochures and company catalogue, and was launched alongside Enea’s latest range which coincided with the Milan Furniture Fair.

This post, an update to the original from 2015, features all new project images, a more extensive look at art direction, stationery and both product and company brochures, photographed as part of Clase bcn’s new website.
