Let’s Grow Canada

Let’s Grow Canada is an initiative to ‘build a stronger and more sustainable food future for both the country and the world’. With tensions building around natural resources, food stability and tariffing it’s no wonder we’re seeing these kinds of things growing in prominence and necessity. Despite positioning themselves as being concerned with global issues, the maple leaf is unambiguously projecting this as National movement towards increasing self-sufficiency. It’s a powerful and immediate symbol, baked right into the national flag – you’d think that would scare designers away but many have embraced the creative challenge, offering many interpretations, and transposing international goodwill right into a corporation, organisation or institution that has it home on Canadian territory. Often, the maple leaf is geometrically reinterpreted and blended with a secondary form. Skiis in the case Polygraphe’s logo for Kombi, or a book for Learn Canadian by ARK Agency. The most effective find a natural intersection of the two motifs. Here, the maple leaf and mountain find a synergy between two national natural phenomena and notions of growth and achievement. It’s immediate, distinctive yet recognisable and scales well.
