Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group

Kazumasa Nagai, Nippon Design Center

2005, Japan

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group was formed in January 2006 from a merger of Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group and UFJ Group. The theme of coming together is symbolized by its logo, an abstract expression of two people holding hands, a gesture of customers and the company working collaboratively for a better life. The circle, typically depicated in red, becomes a focal point and representative of Japan’s presence in relation to the world and its role in helping to shape the financial services industry. Although not literal and immediate, it is a simple yet distinctive form and continues in the Japanese tradition of evoking the rising sun and family crests.
